Fresh whole onions have been linked to a growing salmonella outbreak in at least 37 states.
With at least 650 people sick, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention says to check your onions and if the onions are marked as imported from Chihuahua, Mexico, and distributed by ProSource Inc. to throw them out. They also recommend throwing away the onions if they aren’t marked at all to be safe.
The Food and Drug Administration said that ProSource had volunteered to recall onions it imported from July 1 to Aug. 27. The CDC did not say how many onions may have been imported, but is investigating if other onion suppliers may be linked to the outbreak.
The onions were sold to grocery stores and restaurants across the country.
